1894 PRE OLYMPIC BOXING GOLD MEDAL . The Obverse Side Says "Metropolitan Ass'n and Amateur Athletic Union of the United States" the Reverse side says "122 LBS. Boxing 1894". This Gold Medal was from the Metropolitan Association which is the (New York Division). New York is widely known as the Epicenter of Boxing's Rich Culture and History. *The AAU was founded on January 21st 1888. The AAU conducts its first championships for boxing, fencing and wrestling on April 6th 1888 at New York's Metropolitan Opera House. January 1st, 1890 A.G. Mills, a member of the AAU Board of Governors, introduces a plan which calls for the AAU to reorganize into a union of Associations (now called Districts) rather than an association of clubs. What will later be known as the “Mills Plan” passes unanimously, creating the first five AAU Districts – Atlantic, Central, Metropolitan, New England and Pacific Coast. *(https://aausports.org/timeline.php) 1894 was the year the 1st boxing short film was ever produced. After extensive amounts of research including speaking with the AAU directly to find out who won this medal and or who competed for it the representative of the AAU had stated "it would be impossible to know as the record keeping was not up to par back then".
